Should There Be A Bounty On Trump Supporters?

Poll: Trump approval remains stable, Republicans unmoved after Capitol violence

Carrie Dann

WASHINGTON — Donald Trump is the only president in U.S. history to be impeached twice — this time for his role in inciting a deadly assault on the Capitol by his supporters— but he is still poised to leave office with a job approval rating that is fairly typical of his entire time in office.

A new NBC News poll found that 43 percent of voters nationwide gave Trump a positive job approval rating, just barely down from 45 percent who said the same before the November election and the 44 percent who approved of his performance shortly after he took office in 2017.

The same poll found that 35 percent of voters — including 74 percent of Republicans but just 30 percent of independents and 3 percent of Democrats — believe that President-elect Joe Biden did not win the 2020 election legitimately.

Sixty-one percent of all voters — but just 21 percent of Republicans — say Biden did win legitimately.

While a record 10 House Republicans broke ranks to vote for the president's impeachment last week, Trump’s approval rating among Republicans in the poll shows few signs that GOP voters are widely disillusioned with the president.

Almost 9-in-10 Republicans — 87 percent — give Trump a thumbs-up, compared with 89 percent who said the same before the November election.

And even for the half of Republicans who say they prioritize the GOP generally over allegiance to Trump, his high approval remains unmoved by recent events.

Among Republicans who say their primary loyalty is to Trump over the party, 98 percent approve of his performance. For those who say they prioritize the party over the president, his approval still stands at 81 percent — virtually unchanged from October 2020. (These findings contrast with some other recent national polls showing Trump’s job rating lower. Unlike other surveys that sampled all U.S. adults, NBC’s poll surveyed registered voters.)

In the NBC survey, nearly a third of GOP voters surveyed — 28 percent — said that Trump’s words and actions related to the violence at the Capitol on Jan. 6 actually reinforced their vote for Trump.

Just 5 percent said they now regretted their support for him, and fully two-thirds — 66 percent — said their feelings about Trump had not changed.

While 52 percent of voters overall say that Trump is solely or mainly responsible for the protests that led to rioters overtaking the Capitol, including 91 percent of Democrats and 44 percent of independents, just 11 percent of Republicans agree. (About half of Republicans, though, place responsibility on “social media companies” and “Antifa.”)

“While a few Republican elected officials have broken with Trump, Republican voters are sticking with him for now,” said Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research, who conducted the poll along with Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies. “As we’ve seen over the course of his term, major event after major event does little to shake Trump’s standing with Republicans.”

Trump’s standing among those outside the GOP remains similarly unchanged. He gets a positive job assessment from 44 percent of independents and just 5 percent of Democrats in the latest poll, shares that are also nearly identical to pre-election surveys.

Previous NBC polling has indeed found Trump’s approval among voters to be remarkably stable despite his tumultuous presidency, fluctuating only between a high of 47 percent and a low of 38 percent.

The latter rating came in late 2017, after Trump was widely criticized for his response to violence after a gathering of white supremacists in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Half of voters call Trump “worst than most” presidents

About half of the electorate — 49 percent of voters — ranks Trump as “definitely worse than most” presidents, a share recently rivaled only by the 48 percent who said the same of departing President George W. Bush in late 2008.

An additional 9 percent say Trump is "not as good as most."

Forty percent of voters rank Trump as either “one of the very best” presidents (19 percent) or “better than most” (21 percent). That’s significantly lower than majorities who gave above-average reviews for Bill Clinton (56 percent) or Barack Obama (55 percent) when they left office.

But Trump’s lukewarm review still doubles the mere 20 percent of voters who gave Bush an above-average ranking when he departed the White House in 2009.

The outgoing president’s legacy, like views of his performance throughout his presidency, is one defined by hard partisan lines.

Those viewing Trump’s presidency as “better than most” or “one of the best” include 82 percent of Republicans, but just 40 percent of independents and just 4 percent of Democrats.

When former presidents Obama and Clinton exited office while enjoying relatively high approval ratings, a higher share of those in the opposite party — 20 percent and 27 percent of Republicans, respectively — ranked their presidencies as above average.

Biden, Harris best Trump on favorability scale

While the poll finds Trump’s personal favorability ratings underwater, the Democrats heading to the White House fare better.

President-elect Biden has a net favorability rating of +4 (44 percent positive, 40 percent negative), while Vice President-elect Kamala Harris has a net rating of +0 (41 percent positive, 41 percent negative.)

That’s compared with Trump’s net personal rating of -13 (40 percent positive, 53 percent negative.)

Joe Biden’s wife, Jill Biden, has a personal favorability rating of +14 (40 percent positive, 26 percent negative.) Notably, though, a majority of Republicans — 59 percent — give her a negative rating, a particularly high marker of antipathy for an incoming first lady from members of the opposing party.

Before Obama’s inauguration, 33 percent of Republicans gave Michelle Obama a negative personal rating. And before Trump’s inauguration, 44 percent of Democrats gave Melania Trump a similarly poor grade.

The NBC News poll of 1,000 registered voters was conducted Jan. 10-13, 2021, by the Republican firm Public Opinion Strategies and the Democratic firm Hart Research. The margin of error for registered voters is +/- 3.1 percentage points.

Traitorous Senator Tim Scott Proves Treason Is Not Only A White Thing

Treason, its not only a White thing.

You are a double traitor Tim Scott. You are a traitor to your country and a traitor to African Americans. Your support of Trump who you and #Leningrad Lindsey knew from the get go was a bigot, criminal liar and zenophobe proves what we both already know. You and the other traitor need to go. You are a well spoken prick licking simpleton with the integrity of a snake so you can probably get a job lying for Fox News as the token black guy.

Biden will do the same thing that Lincoln and Obama did and let the crimes of you traitorous Republicans slide in the interest of healing.  Lindsey is maybe even a bigger traitor, liar and hypocrite than you are.

If there's even shred of decency in you, you will spend the rest of your life apologizing for your crimes and your depravity and you will fight to reform this corrupt political system but that would require integrity which is rarer than rocking horse shit in the GOP.

Start telling the truth Tim and see if that changes who and what you are. Even of that happens it will still not end the deparavity of the 70 million MAGAts who voted for the Orange Menace. You are complicit in this treason. I'd like to see you locked up with the rest of them.

Just as high level Nazis licked the boots of Hitler and his mob, you have licked the boots of the Trump mob and the boots of the Neo Confederates. Instead of toppling confderate monuments to treason and slavery you tolerated them. Maybe you should change your name to Tom?

If there is a hell Tim, you will be there with a lot of other Republicans. You only have one soul. Try and repent. Start now.  Time's a wastin.

Dealing With MAGAts, Terrorists and Traitors

Mike Mercury,

_______________

The MAGAt attack on the US Capitol is just the beginning. This attack has inspired them to recruit and do more.  The depravity of these animals to praise Hitler is the same depravity the allows them to call the Confederacy and its treason and slavery heritage.  I read an article about German POWs in US POW camps. About 7% were Waffen SS and they were still as rabid as they were in the beginning of the war. The rest of the POWs quickly realized that all the lies the Nazis told them were lies. I would bet that the Waffen SS knew that as well but they were do depraved that they pretended to believe the lies. Did the Waffen SS training make them depraved? Probably not.  Did Trump's lies make the MAGAts depraved? No way. Does right wing media make MAGAts depraved. Probably not. Does ignorance alone make them depraved? Probably not. Did Trump create them. Probably not.

If you remember when the parties picked their candidates in 2016 the two Republican favorites were Cruz and Trump and when the primaries were over the GOP base chose the worst of the worst.  Why? My theory is, Trump is everything they are and everything they aspire to be.

I think this country is screwed unless we do a Nuremberg on a large scale. A lot of Nazis were killed and executed but not nearly enough. My father served with the 63rd in WW-2. Members of the 63rd liberated some of the death camps. I don't know if my father there. He didn't talk much about his time in Germany. He talked mostly about North Africa, France and Italy.  He did have war trophies from Germany. I don't think it bothered him to kill Germans. He talked a little about people who he interrogated and how they all denied being Nazis.

The difference between the Germans and the MAGAt is a lot of Germans were tricked by Hitler. He had taken over the news media and he was a lot smarter than Trump and when you take into account the economic shape Germany was in, it makes more sense as to what happened. MAGAts are even more depraved than Nazis and I think the US has a higher percentage of them that Germany had and I think MAGAt/Nazis are even more dangerous and depraved that their German counter parts.

My father was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church. They are Calvinists. John Brown was a Calvinist. Calvinism teaches predestination.  I guess he believed that some people are simply no damn good and beyond redemption.  John Brown tried to peacefully end slavery until he realized it was futile. Then he tried the only logical thing.  No we have the Battle Hymn of The Republic to honor him.

I don't think MAGAts are capable of anything but depravity.  I don't think they are capable of normal thinking and I don't they can be reached on a human level.  Do you? I think that the only reason some of them are law abiding is because they fear the consequence of law breaking. I think the only way to keep them in check is by fear.  Robespierre would agree.

Pressure the US Justice Department to punish them severely.

Two North Carolina Traitorous MAGAts Arrested For The Attack On The US Capitol

I think it is important that people in North Carolina be warned about these dangerous MAGAts. Forewarned is forearmed. The MAGAts who followed the orders of Trump and Giuliani are dangerous and traitorous. We humans didn't place bumper stickers on our cars or signs on our lawns for fear of the MAGAts acting like MAGAts. MAGAts are not only evil, MAGAts are very dangerous. We the People are not out of dangers and we will never be safe and will never reach its potential until the MAGAts are brought to heel.

These MAGAts  are subhuman and that makes them dangerous.

These MAGAts are impervious to truth and that makes them dangerous.

These MAGAts are heavily armed and that makes them dangerous.

These MAGAts hate the rule of law and that makes them dangerous.

These MAGAts are mentally defective and that makes them dangerous.

These MAGAts are children in adult bodies and that make them dangerous

These MAGAts are incapable of critical thinking and that makes them dangerous.

Matthews NC man arrested storming US Capitol. ‘I’m sure he would do it all again’ associate says.

MATTHEWS, N.C. (WBTV) - A Matthews man was arrested in Washington, D.C. Wednesday as part of the violent group of pro-Trump supporters that stormed the United States Capitol, causing chaos and bloodshed.

Police records from the Metropolitan Police Department show Earl Glosser was charged with curfew violation and unlawful entry.

WBTV was able to track down Glosser’s home address to a neighborhood in Matthews.

When we knocked on the door, a woman who refused to identify herself answered and confirmed that Glosser was in D.C. Wednesday.

“He wanted to be a part of this,” the woman told WBTV.

Asked if Glosser would have any regrets about the riots the woman said no.

“Absolutely not, I’m sure he would do it all again,” the woman said.

“I think the way things are working out right now is absolutely ridiculous. It’s just kind of embarrassing to be an American right now.”

WBTV Investigative Reporter conducts interview about man arrested in DC riot

When asked what she meant the woman referenced alleged fraud in the presidential election. No evidence of widespread election fraud has been found or verified in any state.

“The fraudulent claims and everything, it’s ridiculous. Wearing a mask is absolutely ridiculous,” the woman said.

WBTV has requested details from the Metropolitan Police Department about Glosser’s arrest but the department has not provided any additional information yet.

According to Metropolitan Police logs, seven people from North Carolina were arrested on Wednesday. All seven of them were charged with curfew violation and three of them had an additional charge of unlawful entry.

Thursday afternoon, Metropolitan Police shared the hometowns of the people from North Carolina who had been arrested:

  • JERE BROWER 45, Sanford, NC - Curfew Violation, Unlawful entry
  • EARL GLOSSER 40, Matthews, NC - Curfew Violation, Unlawful entry
  • LANCE GRAMES 42, Sarfield, NC - Curfew Violation, Unlawful entry
  • TIM SCARBORO 33, Monroe, NC - Curfew Violation
  • JAMES SMAWLEY 27, Charlotte, NC - Curfew Violation
  • JAY THAXTON 46, Concord, NC - Curfew Violation
  • MICHAEL JONES 23, Charlotte, NC - Curfew Violation

Glosser was arraigned Thursday afternoon. He was released from jail and ordered not to be in the District of Columbia except for court related reasons. His next court date is June 10th.

An Extremely Dangerous MAGAt is Thomas Alexander Gronek

On Monday, as thousands of supporters of President Donald Trump prepared to travel to Washington, D.C., to protest the certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s election, 46-year-old Thomas Gronek of Asheville was ready.

A friend of Gronek posted photos and a video to Facebook showing off Gronek’s ride — an old school bus spray-painted with a psychedelic color scheme, Grateful Dead iconography, pro-Trump graffiti and “Stop The Steal” messages.

Image: Facebook

The next day. the bus was stopped by the D.C. Metropolitan police in the 700 block of Constitution Avenue, minutes from the United States Capitol. Police said they found fireworks, a pistol, a rifle, a large-capacity ammunition feeding device and more than 300 rounds of ammunition aboard. Gronek was arrested on weapons charges. The driver of the bus,  34-year-old Timothy Keller, 34, of Asheville, was charged with “no permit” for the bus, according to police reports.

Fox46 of Charlotte reported the identities of other North Carolinians arrested at or near the Capitol yesterday, bringing the total to nine:

  • Jere Brower, 45, for curfew violation and unlawful entry.
  • Earl Glosser, 40, for curfew violation and unlawful entry.
  • Lance Grames, 42 for curfew violation and unlawful entry.
  • Tim Scarboro, 33, for curfew violation.
  • James Smawley, 27, for curfew violation.
  • Jay Thaxton, 46, curfew violation.
  • Michael Jones, 23, for curfew violation.

The arrest of the two Asheville men was one of many obvious red flags before an armed mob violently stormed the Capitol Wednesday, clashing with police and forcing their way onto the House and Senate floors, as lawmakers were evacuated or had to shelter in place until order was restored. One woman, who was trying to break down a door inside the Capitol, was shot by law enforcement, and three other people died in medical emergencies. More than a dozen police officers were injured; the FBI found and disarmed two improvised explosive devices. The National Guard had to be called in to help remove rioters from the Capitol and restore order as a city-wide curfew went into place at 6 p.m.

Thomas Gronek, from a video posted to Facebook shortly before his arrest on weapons charges in Washington D.C.

Though lawmakers and law enforcement have denounced the violent riot as unimaginable, right-wing groups and individuals had been laying out just this sort of scenario for months in increasingly erratic and violent social media posts.

On Oct. 30, as Trump was already suggesting his loss would be defacto proof of election fraud and a conspiracy to end his presidency, Gronek himself took to Facebook to post a long screed praising the president and denouncing his opponents and “the evil govt.” In the post Gronek warned of a “mass takeover of the country” in which he feared the constitution would be changed and suggested people opposing Trump and brainwashing the American public may actually be aliens.

“They think we aren’t smart enough to see the reality of this tarded ass mass takeover of our country,” Gronek wrote. ” ENOUGH IS EHOUGH![sic]”

“I will not stand and watch these people or aliens or what ever they are manipulate and screw with your minds into believing that you need them back in power,” Gronek wrote.

By the time he boarded his bus for D.C. this week, Gronek’s confusing but confrontational sentiments had not softened.

In the video in which he showed off his bus, Gronek smiles and lifts a fist on which he appears to be wearing a gauntlet covered in sharp spikes.

“I’ve got this for antifa,” he said, bragging about other weapons he had and ranting against “Asheville antifa.”

“I like my guns,” Gronek said in the video as he pointed out a skull emblem affixed to the front of the bus framed by two pistols, not far from the message “love is the answer.”

Parler, a social media site embraced by conservatives as an alternative to Twitter and its policies against posts encouraging violence or spreading information, saw a wave of similar rhetoric in the run-up to the siege of the capitol.

A week ago a Parler user with the handle “QanonLV” posted “To all the Patriots descending on Washington DC on #jan6….come armed….”

The post has so far been up-voted by other users 870 times and “echoed” (Parler’s version of a re-tweet) by 251 people.

On Thursday, in the wake of the insurrection, the same user was one of many falsely claiming that left-wing activists posing as pro-Trump had actually instigated the violence.

“They set us up,” the user posted.

With Republican lawmakers and media personalities themselves divided on how to best react to the violence and who to blame, right-wing social media also seems to have splintered into factions.

A large number of Parler posts Wednesday and Thursday immediately began blaming left-wing protesters, “antifa” and even the D.C. Metro police for the violence. A number of these centered on internet memes that claim to identify specific rioters photographed at the Capitol as left-wing activists. Those memes misidentify a number of those in the photographs, as has been widely reported.

Even prominent right-wing personalities like Gavin McInnes, founder of the Proud Boys, took to Parler to discredit those posts. McInnes pointed out that some of the most prominent rioters identifiable by photographs, such as a bare-chested man in faux-Norseman costume people have called “Horns,” are Trump supporters and Q-Anon conspiracy theorists well known on the internet.

McInnes suggested, without evidence, a small portion of the crowd may have been left-wing activists and may even have started the riot, but said the rest gladly joined in.

Other Parler users, such as prominent right-wing attorney Lin Wood, suggested the entire riot was part of an organized coup of which Vice President Mike Pence was a ringleader.

Wood, who has been suspended from Twitter, then suggested the vice president be put to death by firing squad.

The sentiment was not an uncommon one on Parler, where a user using #NorthCarolina expressed his anger not at the rioters but at Republicans he thinks have been insufficiently loyal to Trump and his unsupported election fraud theories in the aftermath of the violent siege.

As various conspiracy theories took root Thursday, prominent Democrats and Republicans suggested the mob violence — and how it was allowed to overwhelm police and drive lawmakers from the floor — needs to be thoroughly investigated

Bob Orr, a prominent Republican who served as a justice on the N.C. Supreme Court and as a candidate for governor, told Policy Watch that’s the first step. The next, he said, is swift prosecution.

“I think there needs to be a bipartisan independent criminal investigation of what happened, how it happened, and who was behind it happening.,” Orr said. “And in then trust the U.S. Attorneys and prosecutorial forces in this country that where they find violations of the law – whether it’s a Sedition Act or, or, or whatever, you know, carrying weapons without permit, having other types of dangerous instruments that are unauthorized that these individuals will be prosecuted to the full extent of law and the people that that were the instigators.”

“I think there were certainly more than just the people that went into the Capitol,” Orr said. “You know there were people behind this and, the country needs to find out, you know, who was behind this.”

NC Policy Watch Courts & Law reporter Yanqi Xu contributed to this story.
