Not locking down the entire country is like saying, "You can piss in this part of the pool but you can't piss in that part of the pool." It's nuts. IMO, a lot of blame goes on individuals who whine like pathetic babies about their perceived rights while having no regard for the rights of others. This is typical of righties. Albert Ellis, the father of rational emotive therapy was wrong when he said people are neither good or bad, they just do bad things because they are neurotic. IMO the Trumpanzees aren't any more neurotic than actual humans, they are by nature mentally deficient and morally depraved the same as any other Nazi. I am willing to stay hunkered down for another year if millions of Trump's lemmings march into the COVID-19 meat grinder.
Right now I'm not in the mood for a romantic comedy. I'm more inclined to binge watch Death Wish and Inglorious Basterds If I saw a truck with a confederate battle flag I would have a strong urge to confront the driver, pepper spay him and lay the boots to him. In all rational honesty, if Nazi punching were legal and the spaying and neutering of Nazi types and other amoral sub-human predators predisposed for fuckery, humanity's gene pool would be in good stead for they survival and advancement of the human race. President Lincoln missed the opportunity to cleanse the American gene pool of they morally defective European stock that settled in the South. He would have been justified in executing all the traitors who went to war with the United States. Sadly, that didn't happen.
By every measure the Bible Belt/Klanistan/Trump World has the most depravity. Luckily it has the lowest life expectancy. It has the lowest collective IQ. It has the most poverty, and violent crime. It has the highest divorce rates and highest rate of teen pregnancy along with the most sloth and gluttony. COVID will act as a selecting agent by infecting the morally weak, the selfish and irresponsible ones, most of whom are Republicans. While that is happening, good people must remain vigilant while keeping the MAGAts believing COVID is the latest "Democrat hoax" and a vaccine is a plot by Bill Gates to implant micro chips in people. Keep the MAGAts believing that JEEEEZUZ will protect them but in case Jesus is busy with his NRA and KKK business to be safe they should drink their daily dose of Clorox.
MAGAts are blissfully ignorant and morally depraved and nothing is going to change that so why not provide them with a road leading to their demise?
OoEd: Now that Texas and Florida are leading the US in COVID-19 deaths this is great news. Texas and Florida were given the head up but believing the medical experts they chose to Trump, the world's biggest scumbag and liar. I hope Texas and Florida have 10,000 deaths per day.
The U.S. surpassed 150,000 deaths from the coronavirus on Wednesday, as the country’s death rate continued a steady climb that began in early July.
The crisis could get far worse in the coming months, billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates told Yahoo Finance Editor-in-Chief Andy Serwer in a recent interview, predicting that the fall could bring daily death tolls not seen since the height of the U.S. outbreak.
“Our peak death rate was well over 2,000 a day,” says Gates, co-founder of Microsoft and a leading backer of global public health initiatives. “But as we get into the fall and people are more indoors — if we haven't cut the infections going into that — we could get back up to that 2,000 a day.”
The sobering prediction comes as Gates works at the center of the global response, holding regular conversations with top infectious disease official Dr. Anthony Fauci and helping fund the development of treatments and vaccines
Gates, along with his wife Melinda, has donated more than $350 million to the fight against the coronavirus through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
As of Wednesday, coronavirus cases were increasing in 29 states, according to the New York Times. The U.S. has recorded an average of about 65,200 cases per day over the past week, which marks a 5% uptick from two weeks prior, the Times reports.
Influencers with Andy Serwer: Bill Gates
In this episode of Influencers, Microsoft Co-Founder Bill Gates joins Andy Serwer to discuss his efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19.
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump falsely stated that much of the U.S. is “corona-free” and defended his amplification of a viral video that made false claims about the pandemic.
During the deadliest period of the outbreak, in April, the U.S. saw a death rate roughly twice as high but far fewer infections, recording rolling averages around 30,000.
Gates pointed to the reduction in the risk of death from the virus as a sign of the progress that has already been made in treating severe cases. He pointed to increased medical knowledge and treatments like the anti-viral drug remdesivir, which shortens hospital stays for patients with the illness.
“The doctors have learned to use the ventilator less,” he says. “To use oxygen earlier.”
“The risk of death has gone down almost a factor of two because of these treatment understandings,” Gates says.
Gates, who serves as co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, made the remarks in an episode of Yahoo Finance’s “Influencers with Andy Serwer,” a weekly interview series with leaders in business, politics, and entertainment.
Until 2000, Gates led personal computing giant Microsoft. That year, he and his wife co-founded their foundation, which now employs nearly 1,500 people and boasts an endowment of $46.8 billion.
The fall poses challenges, since the cold weather will likely ease transmission and limit opportunities for social distancing outdoors, Gates said.
“The fall — if we didn't have these new innovations coming in, or more people adhering to the face mask regulation... fall could be very tough,” he says.
On Wednesday, the CEOs of some of the biggest US tech companies testified in front of lawmakers about allegations of antitrust violations, though many questions were off-topic.
US Rep. Jim Jordan questioned Google CEO Sundar Pichai about allegations of anti-conservative bias in Google's practices. After a colleague characterized his questions as "fringe conspiracy theories," Jordan lashed out and interrupted lawmakers.
Lawmakers immediately slammed Jordan for his interruptions. Rep. Jamie Raskin yelled, "Put your mask on!" before questioning was able to resume.

Why Congress' own economists predict 15 million unemployed in 2021
While President Donald Trump says the economy will take off like a rocket when social-distancing guidelines end, the Congressional Budget Office estimates an unemployment rate of 9% at the end of 2021. In fact, economists think the US might already be at 15% unemployment. With parts of the economy like restaurants, sporting events, movie theaters, and concerts unlikely to be able to go back to 100% capacity for months or longer, it may be hard to bring the unemployment level back down to full employment rapidly.
Lawmakers slammed US Rep. Jim Jordan at Wednesday's antitrust hearing after he repeatedly interrupted a colleague who criticized his questions alleging Google's anti-conservative bias.
When it was Jordan's turn to speak, he grilled Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai about the company's alleged bias toward certain candidates during presidential elections. Jordan pointed to a email prior to the 2016 election, leaked to Fox News, in which a Google executive indicated a desire to drive up the turnout of Latinx voters.
Jordan then asked Pichai to "assure Americans" that Google wouldn't do anything with its features to help Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, beat President Donald Trump in November's presidential election. Pichai disputed Jordan's allegations, and responded that Google's work regarding the 2020 election is "fully nonpartisan."
After Jordan's time ended, the next lawmaker in line to ask questions, Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, took a jab at Jordan and told tech executives, "I'd like to redirect your attention to antitrust law rather than fringe conspiracy theories."
Jordan immediately interrupted Scanlon, repeating his claims about the previously leaked emails. Lawmakers in the room lashed out at the Ohio congressman, telling him his time had expired. The House subommittee Chairman David Cicilline repeatedly banged his gavel in an attempt to get Jordan to stop. Jordan continued, insisting he needed a chance to respond to Scanlon's comments.
Rep. Jamie Raskin repeatedly yelled at Jordan to "put your mask on," a nod to House rules requiring all hearing attendees wear face masks except when it's their turn to speak. Jordan eventually quieted, and questioning was able to resume.
You can watch a video clip below, posted on Twitter, showing Jordan's outburst and the ensuing exchange.
A new report finds that around the world the extremely wealthy have accumulated at least $21 trillion in secretive offshore accounts. That's a sum equal to the gross domestic products of the United States and Japan added together.
The filthy rich need to be gone, there is no arguing that and anyone who would defend the greed and depravity of the billionaire class also needs to be gone. How can this be done? Simply. Tell the filthy rich to give up their wealth and if they won't take it by force. If they resist, kill them and the rest will fall in line. It's simple. Stand and deliver, reach for the sky. Stand and deliver, your money or you die!
Governor Kate Brown said early Wednesday that all Customs and Border Protection & ICE agents would depart Portland and be replaced by Oregon State Police beginning Thursday. But acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf said the agents would stay put "until we are assured that the Hatfield Federal Courthouse and other federal properties will no longer be attacked."
Federal agents issued their first warning of the night shortly before 11 p.m., cautioning people to leave the fence around the courthouse alone or face potential arrest. A few minutes later, they started deploying tear gas and crowd control munitions.
Some people could be seen climbing over the fence and climbing back out at about 11:30 p.m. Federal agents fired another round of tear gas and stun grenades but a large crowd remained crushed against the fence, undeterred.
Federal officials declared an unlawful assembly at about 11:40 p.m. and asked "peaceful protesters" to leave the area.
At one point, some protesters holding American flags and veterans with signs met face-to-face in a silent standoff with federal agents.
Christine VanOsdol was one of the vets who refused to move as agents approached. She said she's a U.S. Army Desert Storm veteran and doctor of occupational therapy.
"I'm out here to stand for the United States Constitution and for people's right to free speech and to stand here and ask for better from our leaders," she told KOIN. "This breaks my heart."
Air Force veteran Jiri Rivers told KOIN seeing federal agents on the streets of Portland engaging with protesters, "fills him with rage."
At about 12:30 a.m., officers held someone face-down on the ground and handcuffed the person before dragging him or her through a garage door on the back side of the courthouse building, KOIN says. Moments later, they arrested a second person just around the corner, taking them through a garage door on the building's north side.
At around 1 a.m., a man from Seattle took at least two less lethal rounds to the legs, at least one of which became embedded in his shin, KOIN reports.
By 2 a.m. only 100 or so people remained in the area near the courthouse. People in the crowd occasionally hopped the fence or threw things over it, prompting additional volleys of pepper balls from officers.
In the early weeks of the coronavirus pandemic, charts showing the countries hit hardest by the disease included the U.S., along with European countries, including France, Spain and Italy. Now, more than four months later, the U.S. remains No. 1 in the world for cases, only now it tops a list that includes almost all developing countries, according to an internal government document obtained by Yahoo News.
A chart in a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention document dated July 28 shows the United States falling further behind Europe in its handling of the coronavirus. The chart, which lists the countries with the highest daily average of new cases over the last seven days, shows that the U.S. is first, with an average of 66,079 new cases reported daily over the last week, followed by Brazil with 45,665 and then India, South Africa and Colombia.
The following countries round out the list: Mexico, Russia, Argentina, Peru, Bangladesh, Iraq and Iran. Russia, the only European country listed, is still doing better than the U.S. at around 5,800 new cases a day.
The U.S. fares slightly better in its death rate over the last seven days, ranking sixth among the dozen countries on the chart, but still accruing an average of 894 deaths per day (the U.S. mortality rate is worse when viewed since the start of the pandemic; then the U.S. moves to second place, behind Peru).
The U.S. has had more than 150,000 deaths due to the virus, the most of any nation in the world.
In the spring, the U.S. and a number of European countries contended with similar rates of cases and deaths as the virus pounded Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. But Europe dramatically lowered the rate of infection and began opening back up, including allowing summer travel. U.S. residents, however, are still banned from most of the continent — although they can visit Ireland and the United Kingdom if they observe a 14-day quarantine.
On Tuesday, German officials expressed concerns about a possible second wave due to 500 new cases per day being reported over the last two weeks, or less than 1 percent of the recent average U.S. total. Even when factoring in Germany’s smaller population — about one-quarter of the U.S.’s 328 million — the per capita difference is vast.
“We don’t know yet if this is the beginning of a second wave but of course it could be,” said Lothar Wieler, head of Germany’s infectious disease agency, who attributed the rising number of cases to increased social contact at parties and the workplace and encouraged wearing masks. “But I am optimistic that if we follow the hygiene rules we can prevent it, it’s up to us.”
On Monday, President Trump stated that while he encouraged social distancing he also wanted states to open up, even though experts attribute the country’s problems to too many states opening too soon. A poll by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research released Sunday showed that just 32 percent of Americans approved of his handling of the pandemic.
On Monday evening Trump retweeted a video, later removed from social media services, that stated there was a cure for COVID-19 and that masks were not effective. The president was asked about it during a briefing Tuesday.

“Mr. President, the woman that you said was a ‘great doctor’ in that video that you retweeted last night said that ‘masks don’t work’ and there is a cure for COVID-19, both of which health experts say is not true,” said CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins. “She’s also made videos saying that doctors make medicine using DNA from aliens and that they are trying to create a vaccine to make you immune from becoming religious —”
Trump cut her off, saying he had seen the doctor on television and found her to be “very impressive.”
“I thought her voice was an important voice,” Trump said, “but I know nothing about her.” He then ended the briefing.
Nine of the top 10 U.S. coronavirus hot spots are in Florida and Texas
While President Trump on Tuesday touted improvements in the coronavirus pandemic in the hard-hit Sun Belt states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned that nine of the nation’s top 10 growing hot spots are in Florida and Texas, according to an internal government document obtained by Yahoo News.
The CDC document, a daily update on the coronavirus, identifies counties that are “areas of concern,” because cases are “high and still growing.” Five of the top 10 counties on the list are in Florida, four in Texas and one in Louisiana.
Most striking among those top 10 counties is Miami-Dade in Florida, which has had more than 40,000 new cases over the past two weeks, according to the document. The CDC did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Yahoo News about its rankings of hot spots.
The document, which is not for public release, was circulated among government agencies on Tuesday, the same day that Trump in a press briefing declared the South was getting better
Source: CDC
“We’re seeing improvements across the major metro areas and most hot spots,” Trump said during Tuesday’s press briefing. “You can look at large portions of our country; it’s — it’s corona-free. But we are watching very carefully California, Arizona, Texas and most of Florida. It’s starting to head down in the right direction, and I think you’ll see it rapidly head down very soon.”
Large portions of the country are not, in fact, “corona-free,” as Trump suggested, but Arizona, Texas and Florida — three of the hardest-hit states — have seen some improvements over the last week, with the new average case numbers falling. Other states such as New York, which was the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak earlier this year, have dramatically pushed down cases.
But the CDC list of hot spots can also serve as a harbinger of worsening trends. For example, in mid-May, as reopening was just getting started, Yahoo News reported that the CDC identified Palm Beach County in Florida and San Bernardino County in California as emerging hot spots
Source: CDC
Now, more than two months later, both Florida and California have seen cases surge, including in those original hot spots. San Bernardino is bringing back “alternate care sites” as its hospitals reach maximum capacity for COVID-19 patients, and Palm Beach County is considering closing its economy down again to deal with the spike in cases.
The governors of both Florida and Texas have faced widespread criticism for reopening their states too early, only to see a surge of coronaviruses cases. Yet both now claim, like Trump, that the situation is improving.
“We are turning the situation in the state of Texas,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said earlier this week on CNBC. “It’s just going to take a little while, but we’re going to be fine.”
Earlier this week, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis tried to put a positive spin on the situation in his state, arguing that even as cases go up, new hospitalizations are going down.
“We’re encouraged by the most recent trends,” DeSantis said Monday at a press event with Vice President Mike Pence at the University of Miami. “Yesterday, hospital admissions in the state of Florida for COVID-like illness was the lowest it’s been since June. Emergency department visits for COVID-like illness yesterday was as low as it’s been since the middle of June.”
