Politicians on the left and right have condemned Miller, and Sen. Tammy Duckworth is now calling for her resignation.

Trump supporters broke into the US Capitol on Wednesday. Some carried loaded guns, American flags, and Trump paraphernalia.

Democratic Sen. Tammy Duckworth tweeted calling for the resignation of Rep. Mary Miller on Wednesday.

"To say that Adolf Hitler, the perpetrator of the worst genocide in world history, is 'right' about anything is disqualifying for any supposed 'leader' serving in Congress," Duckworth posted, along with a video of Miller's remarks.

"Hitler was right on one thing. He said whoever has the youth has the future," Miller, a newly elected representative from Illinois, said to a crowd of pro-Trump supporters on Tuesday outside the Capitol in Washington, DC.

Miller, who represents Illinois' 15th district, was criticized by other politicians from the state, including those in her own party. Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker called Miller's words "unfathomable and disgusting," NBC Chicago reported. The state's GOP chairman also Tim Schneider also called on Miller to apologize.

Miller released a statement about her remarks on Twitter Friday. "I sincerely apologize for any harm my words caused and regret using a reference to one of the most evil dictators in history to illustrate the dangers that outside influences can have on our youth," the statement said. She went on to note her stance as "passionately pro-Israel" and as a "strong advocate and ally of the Jewish community."

Who Died at The Assault On US Capitol

Three MAGAts died from

Four people died Wednesday when a mob of pro-Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, including three who suffered medical emergencies on Capitol grounds, police said.

Benjamin Phillips, 50, from Ringtown, Pennsylvania; Kevin Greeson, 55, from Athens, Alabama; and Rosanne Boyland, 34, from Kennesaw, Georgia all died from medical emergencies on the grounds of the Capitol, Washington, D.C., police Chief Robert Contee III said in a press conference Thursday.

It was not immediately clear how Phillips and Boyland died. Boyland's family declined to comment Thursday. USA TODAY was unable to reach the families of Greeson and Phillips.

Capitol riot: California woman killed was a military veteran and staunch Trump supporter

According to the New York Times, Greeson suffered a heart attack. He had been talking to his wife on his phone when he fell to the sidewalk, according to a New York Times reporter who watched as emergency personnel did chest compressions.

Greeson's wife, Kristi Greeson, told the Times that authorities contacted her afterward to say that her husband had died of a heart attack. Greeson, the father of five and a "political junkie," had high blood pressure, his wife told the Times. Greeson left home Tuesday and was excited to attend the rally, she told the Times.

Greeson's son, Kyler, posted a statement, along with a series of photos, to his Facebook Thursday, saying Greeson "was such a great man we all miss you so much."

A Twitter account for Kevin Greeson of Athens is infused with posts supporting Trump and profanely denouncing the president's critics. A post in May denied that COVID-19 was killing people, adding, "This is a way to make the President look bad and we ain't buying it. Trump 2020." One month later, amid Black Lives Matter demonstrations, a message to @realDonaldTrump urged, "time for protesting is over! Put military in the streets of every city."

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Benjamin Phillips was a computer programmer who founded a social media website for Trump supporters. He had organized a trip of several dozen people to D.C., and the group arrived Wednesday morning, reported the Inquirer, whose reporter traveled down with the group in their van.

"It seems like the first day of the rest of our lives, to be honest," Phillips told the Inquirer as they drove down.

Phillips was separated from the group when he went to park the van, but police later told some of the members that Phillips had suffered a stoke and died at the hospital, according to the Inquirer.

In addition to the three people who suffered medical emergencies, a U.S. Capitol Police employee shot a woman inside the building, and she later died. Police identified the woman Thursday as military veteran Ashli Babbitt.

"As protesters were forcing their way toward the House Chamber where Members of Congress were sheltering in place, a sworn (U.S. Capitol Police) employee discharged their service weapon, striking an adult female," police said in a statement Thursday. "Medical assistance was rendered immediately, and the female was transported to the hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. She has been identified as Ashli Babbitt."

The employee has been placed on administrative leave and their police powers have been suspended pending the outcome of a joint Metropolitan Police Department and Capitol Police investigation, police said.

Trump Rioters Bring Violence To State Capitols Across The Country

Trump-supporting protesters and rioters gathered at state capitols across the country Wednesday, inspired by chaotic, violent scenes at the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. earlier in the day.

In Arizona, members of a pro-Trump group cracked the window of a museum at the state Capitol, reportedly while shouting for Republican Gov. Doug Ducey to exit the building.

Ducey had tweeted an hour earlier condemning the scene at the U.S. Capitol and imploring followers to respect “peaceful transitions of power.”

AZ Central reports protesters brought a guillotine to the building.

At least one person at the Oregon Capitol in Salem was arrested for harassment and disorderly conduct as what appeared to be dueling groups of protesters ignited fireworks.

In Austin, Texas, the Department of Safety closed the Capitol grounds out of “an abundance of caution,” as protesters gathered there.

Separately, the Texas Republican Party fired its sergeant-at-arms Wednesday after the man, Walter West, posted a message on social media apparently endorsing violence at the Capitol in Washington, D.C.

In Colorado, at least one protester was arrested at the state Capitol, with CBS Denver’s Rick Sallinger reporting the use of a stun gun. Denver Mayor Michael Hancock (D) ordered all city buildings closed as a precaution.

Protesters in Kansas entered the Statehouse on Wednesday afternoon. Unlike what transpired elsewhere around the country, the group in Kansas obtained a permit that granted them legal access to the building, according to KSNT.

In Georgia, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) was forced to leave the Capitol building out of concerns for his safety as militia members gathered outside.

In New Mexico, the Statehouse in Santa Fe was evacuated as a precaution after hundreds of Trump supporters congregated outside, with some shouting to “arrest the governor.”

According to KRQE, some state officials remained inside, however, to continue working on pandemic-related procedures ahead of the start of the Jan. 19 legislative session.

Protesters gathered outside the Utah Capitol also forced the evacuation of that building. Rioters reportedly pepper-sprayed a Salt Lake City Tribune photographer after growing upset he was documenting the protest.

Similar protests also broke out at state capitol buildings in Wyoming, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and California.

Some Questions About The Trump Mob

Knowing that this would be a joint session of congress – literally, the entire legislative branch of the US government – performing what is, in “normal” cases, ceremonial while, in this case, one that was absolutely crucial to the continued existence of "the republic”, why were there so few guarding the proceedings?

The short answer is, it's the Trump justice department. The longer answer is, Trump and his mob thought maybe the MAGAts would kill a lot of Trump's enemies including anyone who believed in the rule of law and delay the proceedings.

Was this some sort of inside job that was just so poorly planned that the outcome was as it happened? I have to think Agent Orange would be a little craftier to insure a better result. Maybe it was just his anger played out with betas as pawns, but I wonder...

Trump fucks up everything. His own judges rules against him and now members of his cabinet are calling for the 25th Amendment to be invoked. Trump can't think past lunch. The MAGAts are low IQ most of them. They did manage to plant bombs. I think Pence called for the National Guard. A lot of cops are racist MAGAts

A question many of us are asking: “Why weren’t there massive numbers of arrests?” Answer: ‘cause they were white. If BLM had stormed the capitol, they would skipped the arrests and gone for body count.

52 were arrested and there may be more arrested. BLM would not storm the capital because they are not terrorists. The Mayor of DC tried to get the National Guard in but Trump countermanded her request. She then called the Pentagon.

Just listened to NPR for a few minutes… They mentioned DC police had the bulk of the responsibility for security and obviously dropped the ball. They’re playing catch-up now and trying to make it look good by asking for information on participants, etc. The fucking capitol should have at least been surrounded by National Guard troops… dogs with giant testicles… automatic weapons and a lot more tear gas.

The DC and Capital police were out-numbered and the MAGAts were really fired up. The Metro Police chief is Black but his officers are scum many of them.

I would have deployed snipers with silenced .22 cal rifles and shot the MAGAts in the legs and if that didn't work then I'd have them use high caliber rounds.

The cops who took down the barriers should be tried for treason and executed.

And then, there are the Good Ol’ Pissant senators who, even after this, objected… worse yet, the roughly 122 GOPedos who objected in the house of reps. Aiding and abetting an unhinged megalomaniac inciting insurrection, eh? It’s time to polish up the blade on that guillotine! Slice and dice, baby! Oh… but before that, we’ve got a little trip planned… a little vacation with the general population at Riker’s Island. How’s your day goin’ now, motherfuckers?

Those Republicans need to be tried by military tribunal and executed on the spot.

TV Doctors Like Dr. Oz, Dr. Phil Hand Out Bad Medicine (Column)

Analysis: TV physician, heal thyself! Celebrity doctors should defer to medical correspondents in the midst of pandemic

Some TV doctors seem to be ignoring the real-world Hippocratic oath.

In recent weeks, a trio of popular dispensers of lifestyle advice – Drew Pinsky, Mehmet Oz and Phil McGraw – have appeared on media outlets or via digital video downplaying the threat of the coronavirus pandemic, with remarks that undermine their credibility and urge people to take steps that could cause harm. Pinsky in sundry February and March appearances suggested to followers that the coronavirus would be “way less virulent than the flu.” Oz told viewers of Fox News Channel’s “Hannity” in a guest segment earlier this week that having children go back to school might be “appetizing” despite the fact it could potentially help spread the contagion.

McGraw appeared Thursday night on Fox News Channel’s “The Ingraham Angle,” ostensibly to speak about mental health. But he reached beyond his expertise. He called for the nation to get back to normal life, noting that the United States does not close to prevent automobile accidents or swimming-pool deaths – a statement that ignores the fact that coronavirus is highly contagious and could spread more quickly if citizens are sent back to their normal routines without appropriate cautions being taken.

In a video posted Friday, McGraw said that “we need to safely, responsibly, follow the science and get back to our lives as soon as possible.” He added: “I don’t mean to say that we need to just run back out there and start pretending that nothing has ever happened. I don’t mean that at all.” He acknowledged his use of auto accidents and swimming pool accidents were “bad examples”

Despite the walk-backs, the appearances have generated substantial concern. “This is quite appalling,” says Mark Feldstein, chair of broadcast journalism at the University of Maryland. “These folks are celebrity entertainers, not infectious disease scientists. They’re outside their area of expertise, and frankly don’t know what they’re talking about here.”

Medical correspondents are a regular staple of any national TV-news outlet’s line-up, but Pinsky, Oz and McGraw are not that.

CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta, ABC News’ Dr. Jennifer Ashton, CBS News’ Dr. Jonathan LaPook and NBC News’ Dr. John Torres work as journalists and are beholden to research and data – and are on staff to help translate current medical findings to viewers who lack medical training. “Those kinds of correspondents are valuable. As doctors, they know how to navigate the media world,” says Ben Bogardus, assistant professor of journalism at Quinnipiac University. “They may not be experts in virology or epidemiology, but when they talk to people who are they can understand it better and can translate it for the viewer.” Fox News Channel has in recent weeks added medical contributors Dr. Martin Makary, a professor of surgery at Johns Hopkins and Dr. Janette Nesheiwat, a medical director at CityMD, an urgent-care provider.
