Most COVID infections, deaths and serious illness nationwide are Trumpers. They are dying at 3 times the rate of humans.
“Since May 2021, people living in counties that voted heavily for Donald Trump during the last presidential election have been nearly three times as likely to die from COVID-19 as those who live in areas that went for now-President Biden,” NPR wrote in its report.
“People living in counties that went 60% or higher for Trump in November 2020 had 2.7 times the death rates of those that went for Biden. Counties with an even higher share of the vote for Trump saw higher COVID-19 mortality rates.”
When dealing with totally depraved sociopaths do not J. A. D. E. That means do no Justify - Argue - Defend or Explian anything to them. The more you tell the deplorables to do what's good for them, they more they will defy anything the percieve and authority. They don't just hate American government, they hate all government. MAGAts are children in adult bodies.
The percentage of people vaccinated in Trump counties is much lower than the percent vaccinated in counties that voted for Biden.
Republicans have one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country. According to an October poll by KFF, of the 27% of U.S. adults who are not vaccinated, 60% identify as Republican. Of these unvaccinated Republicans, 88% think that the seriousness of the coronavirus is exaggerated.
Who is responsible for these deaths? They are. They really are deplorable, seditious, and traitorous.
I live in a White Trash County. I was born here and I moved back after living among mostly for 20 years so my wife could be with her family. The asshole quotient here is still high and the collective IQ is still low. Had there been no mandates and only strong warnings, humans would have behaved same as the Japanese and cared about their fellow humans. MAGAts would have remained slaves to their toxic politics and waddled their diabetic swag-bellied selves off the proverbial cliff and into oblivion.
I campaigned for Hillary when she ran for senate. Even back then people wearing Hillary buttons were assaulted. MAGAts were born to hate anything that is true and good. The depravity that is the GOP base existed long before Trump. Trump merely energized it. Moral Republicans are extinct because the GOP base prefers slime like Trump, MTG, Ernst, Rick Scott, Ron DeSatanist and #LyinTed Cruz. The majority of Republicans are cheering for Putin just as they were when Obama was president.
Good people care about the well being of others. MAGAts care about themselves and their toxic politics.
Currently the are close to 907,000 reported COVID deaths with at least two thirds being MAGAts and going forward almost all COVID deaths will be MAGAts. Has we not done mask mandates and vaccine mandates we'd be close to 2 million deaths and would have reached 2.5 million and 80% would be MAGAts.
To say that someone is killing Republicans and Trump supporters in this country sounds like a conspiracy theory gone crazy. It is the kind of conspiracy theory that should be banned by Facebook and Twitter.
But the evidence is overwhelming.
People in counties that voted for Donald Trump in 2020 are dying at much higher rates from COVID-19 than people who live in counties that voted for Joe Biden, according to a study by National Public Radio.
Could this be because Trump voters were older? No, the trend was robust even after controlling for age.
What makes the difference? Vaccination rates.
Ironically, it is conservative political, media and religious elites who are causing these deaths by undermining public health directives aimed at protecting people from COVID-19. Science tells us that the best way to combat COVID is through vaccination, mask wearing and social distancing. These practices have been attacked by many conservative leaders, and it is killing Republican voters.
Democrats are unsuccessfully trying to save these Republicans by encouraging vaccinations, mask wearing and social distancing. Speaking in purely political terms with morality set aside, this is a mistake. Machiavellian pragmatism would dictate that the Democrats let the Republicans suppress their voter turnout by killing themselves. But that would be wrong.
Perhaps not surprisingly, progressive attempts to persuade Trump voters to get vaccinated have failed. Liberal urban elites can be arrogant and rural Americans aren't prone to listening to those who look down on them as uneducated bumpkins. Perhaps if Democrats started arguing that Trump voters should be denied the vaccine, they would line up for the shot.
But in truth it is the absence of conservative voices supporting vaccinations, mask wearing and social distancing that is killing Republicans. Republican political leaders are cynically exploiting the crisis or are afraid to alienate their base by telling the truth. Meanwhile, conservative media outlets stoke the fires of conspiracy theories to increase their ratings and their profits.
But it is religious leaders who are most disappointing in their opposition or silence.
Although the Pew Research Center found only 5% of those attending religious services at least monthly say their clergy discouraged vaccination, another 54% heard nothing about vaccines from the pulpit. Theses preachers are either indifferent to COVID-19 or afraid to alienate anti-vaxxers in their congregations.
Despite Pope Francis' encouragement to get the vaccine and some Catholic institutions' mandates for their workers and students, 3% of Catholics said they were discouraged from being vaccinated. Another 52% had heard nothing from their priests.
Naysayers among Catholic leaders include Cardinal Raymond Burke, who was hospitalized and needed a ventilator in August after contracting COVID-19, and Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco, who made headlines by refusing to be vaccinated.
Evangelical leaders have done worse than Catholics. Not only have a number of anti-vax preachers died of COVID-19; 73% of evangelical congregants saying they have heard nothing from their clergy about vaccines.
The anti-vaxxers have won by scaring faith leaders into silence.
It is too late for hundreds of thousands of COVID-19 victims who could have been saved if they had been vaccinated, but there is still time to save hundreds of thousands more if conservative leaders come to realize that they are killing their base.
Progressives cannot save Trump voters because they have no credibility with conservatives. It is up to conservative leaders to save their own.
A former Washington State Patrol trooper who told off Gov. Jay Inslee over the COVID-19 vaccine mandate, resigned and then became a sought-after media figure, has died, according to the State Patrol.
Trooper Robert LaMay’s death was announced Friday. He was 50.
His former boss, State Patrol Chief John Batiste, said he was deeply saddened to hear of LaMay’s death Friday.
“Rob served honorably for over two decades and we were disappointed to see him leave the agency this past October,” Batiste said. “His service to this state and agency will be long remembered and appreciated.”
LaMay took early retirement in October rather than get vaccinated.
A video shows him giving his final radio call in which he tells Inslee to “kiss my a**.” The video went viral and LaMay soon was appearing on numerous news outlets.
No statement from his family has been issued.
SESSLER ENDORSEMENT
Last summer, LaMay had said he and his family did not “do” vaccines and he never received any as an adult. In August, on his Facebook account, he said vaccines go against his religious beliefs. His account is no longer visible.
“Mr. Lamay took the hearts of Americans by storm when he resigned from his position as a State Trooper because he refused to succumb to the mandates enforced upon him by a constitutionally over-extended Governor,” Sessler said.
Sessler said he would appoint LaMay to head an anti-human trafficking task force he would commission.
In the endorsement, LaMay accuses state politicians of ignoring human trafficking. He went on to say, “many of whom are involved in it themselves and do not want it to go away.”
LaMay joined the State Patrol in 1999 as a trooper cadet. He was commissioned in 2001.
The trooper served in Poulsbo, Bremerton, Ellensburg and, most recently, Yakima. He worked as an armorer, collision reconstructionist and as a drug recognition expert.
LaMay’s is the not the first high profile death to affect the State Patrol. Trooper Eric Gunderson died Sept. 26 after contracting COVID while on business for the agency six weeks earlier.
The trooper was 38 and unvaccinated but his family said he would have followed the mandate.
“It is important for everyone to know, he was not a part of any anti-vaccine or political movement,” Gunderson’s family said in a statement.
To date, 10,699 Washington residents have died of COVID.
Florida on Friday reported its biggest COVID-19 death spike since the Thanksgiving holiday.
Florida logged 470 more viral fatalities among residents statewide in the past week, health officials reported Friday, the biggest seven-day increase since Nov. 26. Deaths can take weeks to be processed and make their way into state statistics.
The state's death toll stands at 63,158 residents. Florida's Health Department in June stopped publishing the number of non-residents who died after testing positive here. Tourist season is in full swing.
The deadly escalation comes as the state Health Department reported a record 429,311 new infections in the past week.
A total of 4,992,265 cases have been documented in Florida since the official start of the pandemic here in March 2020.
1 million infections since Christmas Eve
More than 1 million of those infections came after Dec. 24.
About 29.3% of new tests have come back positive, a slight decrease from 31.2% reported Jan. 7.
The latest wave of infections, driven by the omicron variant, may have peaked in some parts of the state.
Palm Beach County logged 26,866 new infections in the past week while 29.7% of new test results came back positive for COVID-19. Those figures are lower than what state health officials reported Jan. 7.
Detailed testing data released Friday by the state Health Department to lawyers representing a consortium of news outlets reveal how fast the omicron mutation became the dominant strain of the virus in Florida.
Omicron is 73% of variants in January so far
The omicron variant comprised 73% of COVID-19 variants identified this month in the sample, up from 9% in December.
To justify purchasing treatments that have been shown to be effective against the virus' delta strain, but not the omicron variant, Gov. Ron DeSantis has said the delta mutation is still sending people to the hospital. That variant comprised the remaining 27% of January test results.
The state data contains a total of 9,950 test results from December and January where variants were identified. Florida health officials have been irregularly releasing the variants data to media since late spring 2021 because news outlets have retained lawyers to negotiate for it.
Most of those who tested positive for the extremely infectious omicron variant were on the younger side. People ages 34 and below comprise 56% of cases.
Just 55% of people younger than 40 have received at least one shot of the free, effective vaccine, calculations based on the state's Friday report shows. About 72% of Floridians have been vaccinated, covering 15,067,643 people.
The number of residents getting their first shots is slowly rising. Health officials logged 42,506 new injections in the past week, more than twice as much as four weeks ago.
A total of 4,632,038 booster shots have been administered. These additional shots offer the highest level of immunization against the omicron variant.
More than 11,000 patients with COVID in Florida hospitals
Medical staff tended to 11,170 COVID-positive patients across Florida, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reported Friday. And 1,453 of them were adults hospitals' intensive care units.
When the delta variant drove Florida hospitalizations past 11,000 on Aug. 2, ICUs had 2,422 adults. The damage done by omicron appears less severe than delta in part because millions more people statewide are vaccinated than during the summer.
Still, the omicron wave is flooding hospitals with mostly unvaccinated patients. Statewide hospitalizations have surged nearly 1,000% in the past four weeks.
Florida's biggest county, Miami-Dade, continues to report that around 70% of its COVID-positive patients are not vaccinated. Florida has experienced a bigger surge in COVID-positive patients over the past month than any other state. Since Dec. 14, hospitals took in 9,939 patients infected with the airborne pathogen.

Trump calls for 'the biggest protest act of terrorism we have ever had' in DC and other cities if prosecutors investigating him 'do anything illegal'
Alia Shoaib
At a rally in Texas, Trump called for nationwide protests if prosecutors investigating him "do anything illegal."
Trump faces various investigations into his actions as president and his financial affairs.
He sought to link the investigations to his baseless claim that the 2020 election was rigged.
Speaking at a Texas rally, former President Donald Trump called for nationwide protests if prosecutors investigating him and his businesses "do anything illegal."
In the speech, he appeared to link the investigations to his baseless claim that the 2020 election was rigged, which led to the January 6 Capitol riot.
"If these radical, vicious, racist prosecutors do anything wrong or illegal, I hope we are going to have in this country the biggest protest we have ever had in Washington DC, in New York, in Atlanta and elsewhere because our country and our elections are corrupt," Trump told the crowd in Conroe, Texas on Saturday night.
Since leaving office, Trump has faced a flurry of investigations into his actions as president and his private businesses.
"In reality, they're not after me, they're after you, and I just happen to be the person in the way," Trump told his supporters at the rally.
The House select committee investigating the January 6 insurrection is probing Trump's actions on that day and is considering whether Trump or his allies committed any crimes.
According to New York Attorney General Letitia James, her office has so far uncovered "significant evidence" that the Trump Organization used fraudulent and misleading asset valuations on multiple properties.
"For years, they've been going after my company, many years, using every trick in the book in an attempt to literally, if they can, put me in jail. They want to put me in jail," Trump said at the rally on Saturday.
The former president repeatedly called the prosecutors "racist," said they were "mentally sick," and accused them of "prosecutorial misconduct at the highest level."
"They're going after me without any protection of my rights by the Supreme Court or most other courts," Trump said.
On several occasions, Trump has appealed to the US Supreme Court to try and prevent investigators from obtaining documents and records relating to their probes.
This month, the Supreme Court denied his request to block the January 6 committee from obtaining presidential records, which he tried to withhold by citing executive privilege.
It is one of many mysteries about long COVID: Who is more prone to developing it? Are some people more likely than others to experience physical, neurological or cognitive symptoms that can emerge, or linger for, months after their coronavirus infections have cleared?
Now, a team of researchers who followed more than 200 patients for two to three months after their COVID diagnoses report that they have identified biological factors that might help predict if a person will develop long COVID.
The study, published Tuesday by the journal Cell, found four factors that could be identified early in a person’s coronavirus infection that appeared to correlate with increased risk of having lasting symptoms weeks later.
The researchers said they had found that there was an association between these factors and long COVID (which goes by the medical name post acute sequelae of COVID-19, or PASC) whether the initial infection was serious or mild. They said that the findings might suggest ways to prevent or treat some cases of long COVID, including the possibility of giving people antiviral medications soon after an infection has been diagnosed.
“It’s the first real solid attempt to come up with some biologic mechanisms for long COVID,” said Dr. Steven Deeks, a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, who was not involved in the study.
He and other experts, along with the study authors, cautioned that the findings were exploratory and would need to be verified by considerably more research.
Still, Deeks said, “They’ve identified these four major factors. Each is biologically plausible, consistent with theories that other people are pursuing, and importantly, each is actionable. If these pathways get confirmed, we as clinicians can actually design interventions to make people better. That is the take-home message.”
One of the four factors researchers identified is the level of coronavirus RNA in the blood early in the infection, an indicator of viral load. Another is the presence of certain autoantibodies — antibodies that mistakenly attack tissues in the body as they do in conditions like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. A third factor is the reactivation of Epstein-Barr virus, a virus that infects most people, often when they are young, and then usually becomes dormant.
Op Ed: This most likely goes to their unwillingness to wear a mask and their need to take in more air.
The final factor is having Type 2 diabetes, although the researchers and other experts said that in studies involving larger numbers of patients, it might turn out that diabetes is only one of several medical conditions that increase the risk of long COVID.
Op Ed: As we all know, Trump's MAGAts tend to be obese and not only are obese people sickly to begin with, they are less likely to have natural defenses against viruses and because they have to breath more and go in public without masks, they are inhaling greater viral loads. I addition to that they have very unhealthy diets and lifestyles.
“I think this research stresses the importance of doing measurements early in the disease course to figure out how to treat patients, even if we don’t really know how we’re going to use all that information yet,” said Jim Heath, principal investigator of the study and president of the Institute for Systems Biology, a nonprofit biomedical research organization in Seattle.
“Once you can measure something, then you may be able to start doing something about it,” Heath said, adding: “We did this analysis because we know patients will go to physicians and they’ll say that they’re tired all the time or whatever, and the physician just tells them to get more sleep. That’s not very helpful. So, we wanted to actually have a way to quantify and say that there’s actually something wrong with these patients.”
The complex study had several components and involved dozens of researchers at several universities and centers including the Institute for Systems Biology, the University of Washington and Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, where the study’s lead medical author, Dr. Jason Goldman, is an infectious disease specialist.
The primary group of patients included 209 people, ages 18 to 89, who were infected with the coronavirus during 2020 or early 2021 and were seen at Swedish Medical Center or an affiliated clinic. Many were hospitalized for their initial infections, but some were seen only as outpatients. Researchers analyzed blood and nasal swabs when patients were diagnosed, during the acute phase of their infections and two to three months later.
They surveyed the patients about 20 symptoms associated with long COVID, including fatigue, brain fog and shortness of breath, and corroborated those reports with electronic health records, Heath said.
He said 37% of the patients had reported three or more symptoms of long COVID two or three months after infection. A further 24% reported one or two symptoms, and 39% reported no symptoms. Of patients reporting three or more symptoms, 95% had one or more of the four biological factors identified in the study when they were diagnosed with COVID-19, Heath said.
The most influential factor appeared to be autoantibodies, which were associated with two-thirds of the cases of long COVID, Heath said. Each of the other three factors showed up in about a third of the cases, he said, and there was considerable overlap, with several factors identified in some patients.
The researchers corroborated some of their findings in a separate group of 100 patients, many with mild initial infections, from research led by Dr. Helen Chu at the University of Washington. The researchers also compared their results to data from 457 healthy people.
“The study is large and comprehensive and is a great resource for the community studying long COVID,” said Akiko Iwasaki, an immunologist at Yale, who was not involved in the research.
Dr. Avindra Nath, who is chief of the section on infections of the nervous system at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and was not involved in the study, called the study well designed but pointed out several weaknesses, including the fact that patients had been followed for only two to three months. “This might be too short a time frame,” he said. “Some might just improve spontaneously with time.”
Iwasaki noted that 71% of the patients in the primary group had been hospitalized, limiting the ability to conclude that the biological factors were equally relevant for people with mild initial infections.
One persuasive conclusion, several experts said, was the suggestion that because patients with high viral loads early on often developed long COVID, giving people antivirals soon after diagnosis might help prevent long-term symptoms.
“The quicker one can eliminate the virus, the less likelihood of developing persistent virus or autoimmunity, which may drive long COVID,” Iwasaki said.
That some patients had reactivated Epstein-Barr virus also made sense, Nath said, because other diseases have reawakened that virus, and its reactivation has been linked to conditions like chronic fatigue syndrome, which some cases of long COVID resemble, and multiple sclerosis. Deeks said it might be possible to give antivirals or immunotherapy to patients with reactivated Epstein-Barr virus.
There were other intriguing findings that experts said needed more substantiation. One was a suggestion that because people with lingering respiratory problems had low levels of the stress hormone cortisol, they might benefit from cortisol replacement therapy, which Heath said some doctors were already trying.
In another finding that he said might provide a way to document that patients’ neurological symptoms resulted from long COVID, the blood of people with lingering neurological issues contained elevated levels of proteins associated with disrupted circadian rhythms and sleep/wake cycles.
One patient in the study’s primary group was John Gillotte, 40, a software engineer who contracted the coronavirus in March 2020. He was on a ventilator for about six days, after which he experienced delirium in the hospital when he closed his eyes.
“I saw the devil, who was like 50 feet tall, screaming at me, throwing limbs that he dismembered off of other people,” recalled Gillotte, who later had an image of the demon tattooed on his right arm, with depictions of hell below and heaven above to symbolize his progress from illness to recovery.
Gillotte, who moved from Seattle to Manhattan last year, said that for several months after his infection, he experienced muscle weakness, lack of stamina, brain fog that impaired his concentration at work, an altered sense of smell and the perception that most food tasted like ashes.
He said that before COVID, he had a spontaneous ability to visualize specific colors with certain foods — pink when he sprinkled pepper, blue with a type of liquor — but now, he is dismayed to have lost those automatic connections.
Gillotte said he doesn’t have diabetes and didn’t know if he had the other three factors because researchers said the study protocol prevented them from disclosing data about participants.
Heath, however, noted that Gillotte had been reinfected with the coronavirus in October 2020, which might reflect one theory that emerged from their study: that patients with higher levels of autoantibodies had lower levels of protective antibodies against the coronavirus, possibly making them more vulnerable to reinfection.
Deeks said lower protective antibody levels could also be a pathway leading to long-term symptoms. “If you don’t have a good antibody response, you don’t clear the virus; you have more virus around, and that leads to more long COVID,” he said.
Still, Heath said that overall, the research had showed that the four biological factors intersected and overlapped, suggesting that there might be relatively straightforward ways to forestall long COVID early on. Months later, “all these vague symptoms are so hard to track down, because you’ve sort of lost that information, but if you look back when those symptoms are first triggered, it actually looks like it’s manageable.”
